Festival at the Park 2026 welcomes one of the most significant theatrical productions of this summer. Euripides' iconic Medea will be presented on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Ai-Yiannis Detis Park Theatre, directed by internationally acclaimed director Nikita Milivojević and starring Karyofyllia Karabeti in the title role.
Twenty-nine years after her legendary portrayal of Medea, Karyofyllia Karabeti returns to one of the most demanding and celebrated roles of ancient Greek drama, embodying a woman who loved completely and was ultimately driven to absolute rupture.
Nikita Milivojević, one of the most distinguished European directors of his generation and well known to Greek audiences for his remarkable work on classical Greek texts, approaches Medea with clarity and inner strength, illuminating the deeply human dimension of the myth. While remaining faithful to the classical core of Euripides' text, the production reveals the timeless intensity of a work that continues to resonate powerfully with contemporary audiences.
Medea remains strikingly relevant. It speaks of love and betrayal, exile, dignity and the limits of human endurance. Here, Medea is not portrayed as a mythical monster, but as a profoundly human figure pushed to the ultimate point of conflict with herself and the world around her.
The production stars Karyofyllia Karabeti, Lazaros Georgakopoulos, Aris Lebessopoulos, Tasos Sotirakis and Reni Pittaki, joined by a large ensemble cast and live music performed on stage, featuring an original score by Dimitris Kamarotos.
The performance takes place within the unique natural setting of the Paros Environmental & Cultural Park, on the protected peninsula of Ai-Yiannis Detis. Here, where the Cycladic landscape meets artistic expression, Festival at the Park continues to host outstanding productions from theatre, music and the performing arts, offering audiences unforgettable cultural experiences beneath the summer sky of the Aegean.
