ΙΔΡΥΜΑ ΜΙΧΑΛΗΣ ΚΑΚΟΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ - ΘΕΑΤΡΙΚΗ ΑΙΘΟΥΣΑ

PRESENTATION

FOUNTAINS OF MOJITOS – Evie Demetriou / Εn Drasi

13 December 2022

Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, Athens

Performance starts at 21:00

The House of Cyprus in collaboration with the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation presents the performance Fountains of Mojitos choreographed by Evie Demetriou.

The performance is in collaboration with the dancers Rania Glymitsa, Eleftheria Socratous, Milena Ugren Koulas and Julia Brendle and Belgian dance dramaturg Guy Cools.

”In Evie Demetrious new group choreography, she gathered around her four dancers, four women, four friends, four mothers who share their intimacies with each other: how they experience their sexuality, their pregnancies, their changing bodies and the wide range of emotions these evoke from shame to pleasure; from silent awkwardness to extravert explosions of laughter; from timid self-explorations over sensual or assertive encounters to joyful celebrations of togetherness.

Together they researched a physical language that allows the spectator to eavesdrop in on their intimate conversations and experience a similar emotional and energetic journey.”

Guy Cools

Dance Dramaturg

The choreographer notes:

«In the past ten years, the main topic of my choreographic research has  been women, their role in society as well as who they are as human beings.  However, it is only in the last three years that I started giving so much attention to how society understands women. I started noticing all the behavior that reduced women; how they are portrayed in media writings in newspapers and magazines; how some men talk to women in the streets; how politics reduces the status and opinions of women; how society often silences women and how the epidemic assaults on women became more clear. From all these observations, I started to understand where shame and guilt may come from.

I chose a group of performers that I admire as artists and as persons.   From a constant exchange of thoughts, beliefs and practical based movement work, Fountains of Mojitos started to reveal itself. Trusting our process, a performance is being revealed where these exchanges are staged, sometimes casual but often more formatted” to share with the audience some of our concerns of todays world.»
