Viva la mamma!, a fresh and subversive take on Gaetano Donizetti's comic work Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali (Conventions and Inconveniences of the Stage, 1827), will be brought back to life at the GNO Alternative Stage at the SNFCC. The opera brilliantly satirizes the endless confrontations and vanity prevailing behind the scenes of a music theatre company. Staged by the experienced director Sofia Paschou, the performance tells the story of a music theatre troupe struggling to mount a production that ultimately ends in blatant failure. Odd sets, stunning costumes, and human vanity take center stage, with the performance serving as a reflection of contemporary theatrical reality. The production is a playful journey of balance among the elements of an operatic performance, featuring a cast that combines opera singers and actors and offering a multilayered performance that emphasizes the work's comedic power and enduring appeal.
