29 years after her legendary performance, Karyofyllia Karambeti returns to the emblematic protagonist role this summer with Nikita Milivojević's "Medea". The international director, much loved by the Greek audience, comes to our country to sign a breathtaking reading of the great tragedy; a Medea who carries, as memory and as truth, the unbearable burden of love that leads to betrayal, exile and death.

After the groundbreaking artistic experience "Persians - The Journey to the Field of Souls" that he presented in 2023 in Eleusis - European Capital of Culture, Nikita Milivojević -an international director with a deep connection to Greek literature- this time returns to approach Medea with clarity and inner strength, illuminating the human dimension of the myth. The performance maintains the classic axis of the text, letting the undercurrents of a powerful memory permeate the action. The story seems to unfold through what Medea herself recalls, like images that persistently return; the love; the flight; the children; the betrayal.

In the role of Medea, Karyofyllia Karambeti embodies a woman who loved profoundly and was led to a complete rupture. Alongside her, Lazaros Georgakopoulos and Aris Lembesopoulos clearly capture the conflict of love, power and responsibility that permeates the play, while Reni Pittaki, in the role of Nurse, brings the voice of memory and conscience of the tragedy.

Twelve actors seamlessly unite on stage, where the voices blend and function as a mirror of the heroine's fall. With two musicians on stage organically participating in the action, Dimitris Kamarotos' live music runs through the performance with intensity and evocativeness, creating a soundscape that converses with ancient speech.

Medea remains shockingly timely. It speaks of betrayal, exile, dignity and the critical point where man is crushed between love and social order. The performance does not treat Medea as a "monster", but as a conscious human being who reaches their ultimate limit.
