Karima El Aidaoui, "MEKTOUB" (Morocco)
"Mektoub" is a solo choreographic piece blending dance and theatricality, exploring a fundamental question: Is marriage a personal choice or Mektoub?
In Arabic, "Mektoub" literally means "it is written". It reflects the belief in a higher force that determines the course of life.
Through movement, the piece delves into the intimacy of women's emotions and sensitivities in response to tensions related to age, marriage, and the cultural, social, and familial pressures of traditional Moroccan society. It invites reflection on how these constraints shape women's trajectories and influence their identities.

The Modulus of Resilience" is inspired by the book White Torture by Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi and serves as an ode to the value of effort.
This effort awakens an individual's capacity for self-determination, empowering them to construct their own identity and embrace the multiple roles they play without guilt.
The present-day stories of women who have lived and been confined within a collapsing social model are embodied through the performer.
Women who have faced immense challenges, found the strength to resist, and ultimately survived a system of rules that dictated their behavior, position, and status, come together on stage to celebrate a culture of resistance and a faith in new (non) norms and principles.
