Athens Photo World, despite the compulsory cancellation of May's event, still went ahead with the competitions for its two awards, which were established last year through a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), in fulfilment of the wish of Yiannis Behrakis and the competition organizers.
The purpose of the awards is to actively support the world's photojournalists, so that they can continue their work as "eye witnesses" of the global reality captured in their photographs and shared with the public through the news media.
The competitions closed on July 20th, with the participation of many important photographers from both Greece and abroad, and a remarkably high standard of entries.
The winners of the International Photojournalism Award "Yannis Behrakis" and the APW award will be announced on the 26th of September, at 19:00, in a special event at the SNFCC Lighthouse, which will also be attended by last year's winners, Dar Yasin and Yiannis Antonopoulos, as well as Elisavet Saridou Behrakis, Chair of the selection committee of the International "Yannis Behrakis" Award.
The event will also include a projection presenting a selection of award-winning photographs from the World Press Photo 2020 international photojournalism competition.
