The French singer-songwriter Imany returns to Athens on Monday, March 30, as part of WOW Athens, for a concert that brings music into dialogue with contemporary social issues. Drawing from her new album Women Deserve Rage, Imany presents a body of work that speaks openly about women lived experiences and the right to authentic self-expression.
Imany -born in France as Nadia Mladjao- has roots in the Comoros, an archipelago in the Indian Ocean shaped by strong African and Arab cultural influences. Her stage name means "faith" in Swahili - a word that reflects both her outlook on life and her creative approach. She quickly stood out for her deep, instantly recognizable voice and for the way she blended soul, folk, and pop with rare intensity.
Her debut album, The Shape of a Broken Heart, achieved platinum status internationally and introduced her to a broad audience, with songs such as You Will Never Know. Her artistic journey has since been marked by major distinctions as well as bold creative steps, including the Voodoo Cello project, where her voice intertwines with the harmonies of eight cellos. This unique dialogue between strings and voice led to a world tour of over 100 dates.
Alongside her musical career, Imany has developed a strong social and activist presence, speaking publicly about issues related to women's health, rights, and visibility, and consistently linking artistic expression with public engagement. As she stated in an interview: "I like to tell stories. Sometimes lyrics are based on my own experience, sometimes they are made up," describing music as a space of storytelling and freedom. At the Stavros Niarchos Hall, Imany appears with her six-piece band, creating a live performance that moves beyond listening and becomes a shared experience.
This event is not included in the WOW Festival Pass 2026.
