The CHAIR that REMEMBERS
Apollon Theater, Syros
Sunday May 10, 2026 | 20:00

The theatrical performance, written as a tribute to the celebration of 200 years of Ermoupolis, seeks to illuminate-through a deeply moving and human perspective-the lesser-known side of the city's history: its memories, its silences, and above all, the women who supported and nurtured it.
With a central symbol of an old chair-at times occupied, at times empty, yet never forgotten-a journey spanning two centuries unfolds. The chair becomes a witness to time and a vessel of memory, guiding the audience through six acts into the lives of ordinary people who shaped the course of the city.
At the heart of the performance lies the figure of the mother. Mothers who were uprooted, who traveled in hardship, who built new lives from nothing. Mothers who worked, who raised children under adverse conditions, who endured loss, hunger, and separation. Through these figures emerges the unseen strength that kept the city alive.
Ermoupolis is presented not only as a historical place, but as a great "mother" itself-embracing refugees, safeguarding dreams, and becoming a point of reference for generations. A city built on effort, love, and solidarity.
The performance stands as a tribute to all the women who passed through this land and left their mark, as well as a moving homage to the timeless value of maternal love. At the same time, it forms part of the celebrations marking the city's 200-year anniversary, highlighting the collective memory and the foundations upon which it was built.
On the occasion of Mother's Day, the play serves as a profound bow of respect, a "thank you," and a reminder that the most powerful force in the world remains a mother's love.
It is a performance that brings stories to life through glances, silences, and emotions, inviting the audience to recognize within these figures their own personal memory.
