PRESENTATION

Sokratis Sinopoulos Quartet comes back to the SNFCC to celebrate the Cultural Center's 5-year anniversary.

The jazz quartet of Sokratis Sinopoulos is marked by its idiosyncratic sound combining the primal twang of the lyra with the piano trio, incorporating influences from the Greek and neighboring musical traditions, as well as from Byzantine and classical music, enriched with a variety of improvisations inspired from both the world of jazz and that of contemporary music.

The quartet started out in 2011, at first working on covers of music standards from the Greek regional traditions to later focus its work on the original compositions of Sokratis Sinopoulos. This material was released in 2015, produced by Manfred Eicher of ECM Records, under the title "Eight Winds" (ECM 2407), to high international acclaim. Then came the quartet's second album, titled "Metamodal" (ECM 2631), which was released in March 2019.

At their SNFCC concert, Sokratis Sinopoulos Quartet will be performing pieces from both these albums, as well as new compositions that will be heard for the very first time, in that special manner with which these four musicians, improvising and constantly interacting on stage, manage to make each and every one of their concerts a unique experience.
