PRESENTATION

Parabases, the SNFCC's readers theater, returns to the Lighthouse of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) for a fifth year. Three new-generation female directors negotiate three milestone theatrical pieces that center around motherhood and the emotional development of humans, as the latter is inextricably linked with early life experiences. The cycle opens in February with the premiere of Eugene O'Neill's masterpiece Mourning Becomes Electra (part 1: Homecoming), adapted and directed by Georgia Mavragani.

The cycle will continue with August Strindberg's The Father, directed by Maria Magkanari, and Euripides's Alcestis, directed by Elena Mavridou.

On Sunday, February 20, at 17:00, the first part (Homecoming) of Eugene O'Neill's masterpiece Mourning Becomes Electra is staged at the SNFCC Lighthouse, in its distinguished translation by Errikos Belies, adapted and directed by Georgia Mavragani. Eight actors and a musician will unfold the story of the Mannon family. Using microphones and sounds, and highlighting O'Neill's magnificent stage directions, this eight-strong "Chorus" will tell - and, at times, reenact - the powerful words of the celebrated American writer, as a familiar story from the olden days.

Georgia Mavragani:
Georgia Mavragani studied Pedagogy at the University of Patras, and Theater at the University of Athens Department of Theater Studies and at the preparatory postgraduate department of DasArts in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her shows have been staged at theaters Amore, Askisi, Poreia, Chora, Epi Kolono, Empros, Porta, at the National Theatre of Northern Greece, Onassis Stegi, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the Experimental stage of the National Theater of Greece, and the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (THOC). She has directed, among others, Robert Musil's The Confusions of Young Törless (adaptation of the novel, transl. Alexandros Isaris), Gjak and Domestication by Dimosthenis Papamarkos, The Lucky Soldier by Xenia Kalogeropoulou and Thomas Moschopoulos, Oresteia / The Eumenides by Aeschylus, as well as the original performances "The suicide's rooftop," "First hand - A performance about tobacco plants," "Innocent no more," "Life is not an easy thing," "Così fan tutti," "Everything I know about the world," "Old age - A chorus," "Nevertheless."

She is a founding member of Kinisi Mavili, and has taught acting at Delos acting school since 2010, staging readers theater with the school's students. Since 2003, she has also been working as a teacher in public primary education. She has conducted acting and performance workshops for professional and amateur actors (bios, Little Theater - Agrinio, Hellenic Cancer Society, etc.), exploring the possibilities and techniques of documentary theater.
