Christmas Stories at the Lighthouse: It is snowing pink snow

Like every year at Christmas time, the Christmas Stories of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) come to life at the Lighthouse, in a luminous, dreamy landscape.

This year, the Christmas stories baton is passed to director Yolanda Markopoulou, who is forming a multicultural company of actors, musicians and performers hailing from different countries, to tell a story capable of uniting children from all parts of the world, brought together by the need to reach out to their peers and build relationships based on understanding, acceptance and mutual support.

Starting on December 23, with only ten performances, the new play by Angeliki Darlasi, It is snowing pink snow - specially commissioned for the Christmas Stories at the Lighthouse of the SNFCC - is lighting up our Christmas with live music, songs, puppeteers, and an emphasis on movement and interaction. The show, staged thanks to a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), highlights the uniqueness of each child and the importance of collective effort, while at the same time attempting to draw attention to the need to raise awareness on the climate crisis.

The author, Angeliki Darlasi, writes about the play:

"Sometimes, when you feel alone, incredible things can happen. For example, Elves might appear out of nowhere and make your wish for snow come true.

Yet, no one, not even the Elves, could see this coming: a Snowman made of... pink snow!

How is this even possible? Does pink snow exist?

And where does this very different Snowman come from?

The Lonely Girl and the Elves embark on a journey, in order to help the Snowman find a place that is suitable to host him. Along the way, they will meet some exceptional people, bee-guides, a scared wolf, a sad polar bear, the spirit of snow, and a young female scientist.

A piece about the importance of collective effort, about embracing diversity, about addressing our fears, and about raising awareness on the issue of climate emergency.

Because, although it may seem like a fairy tale, pink snow does exist."

Upon their arrival at the event, Unemployed and People with Disabilities are advised to show their ID and necessary documents s.a. unemployment card and disability certification document. The companion of the Person with Disability may purchase a regular ticket.

According to the latest measures to protect public health from the risk of spreading COVID-19, a valid vaccination certificate or a disease certificate, is required for the public to enter the event venue, as the venue operates as a pure venue. The above applies to adults. Minors from 4 to 17 years old may, alternatively, submit a statement of negative self test (24 hours), a certificate of PCR (72 hours) or rapid (48 hours) diagnostic test, in accordance with the recent government measures.

A parallel identity check will be carried out on the persons who show the required certificates, as provided by law.

Participants must wear a mask and keep their distance both during attendance and during events and in accordance with the instructions of NPHO.

Due to public health measures, there may be changes regarding either the staging of the event, or the maximum number of participants.

This event comes under a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). Alongside the majority of its events, which are free thanks to a series of SNF grants, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center also organizes a number of events with affordable tickets, thus enriching its income sources and securing its long-term financial integrity.
