Hidden within a narrow alley in Hermoupolis stands one of the 68 factories that the capital of the Cyclades once boasted. The Zisimatos textile factory remains exactly as it was the day it shut its doors-a unique surviving landmark of Syros' industrial heritage.

The rescue and restoration of this space is the most significant initiative of Hermoupolis Heritage.

After several years of hard work, the venue has been fully restored and invites visitors on a brief journey through time. Passing through the old doors, you can discover the workers' lives, explore the factory's operations, and learn about the textile miracle that flourished in Hermoupolis for 140 years.

The experiential experience begins with a lantern in hand. The guide welcomes visitors wearing a work uniform and, through a historical narrative based on the memories of 40 workers, transports them back to 1986, the year the factory ceased its operation.

Afterward, they have the opportunity to wear the traditional work robe, fill out a timecard, just like the workers of that era, and taste the traditional breakfast. During the tour, the senses are heightened through audio and other means-operating the old diesel engine in the dye house, hearing the sewing machines stitch, smelling the scent of time everywhere, and seeing the threads frozen in time.

All of the above contribute to approaching history and culture through an entertaining process, which ultimately gathers all visitors-workers around a single table, where they will enjoy a worker's snack made with traditional local products.
