One of the most cherished and awarded contemporary musicals, Tick, Tick... Boom! by the legendary Jonathan Larson, creator of the iconic rock musical Rent, is being brought to Greece, for the first time, by the GNO Alternative Stage. With dynamic music and a profound emotional charge, this autobiographical musical, staged by emerging director Emily Louizou, translated and adapted by Julia Diamantopoulou, and conducted by Michalis Papapetrou, unfolds the agony and passion of a young artist on the brink of his thirties who struggles to reconcile his dreams with life's harsh challenges. A journey filled with passion, doubts, and hope for all those who live life on the edge and never cease chasing their own boom!
A week before turning thirty, John is overwhelmed by panic. He is trying to ignore the sound of his increasing frustration to finish the musical he has been working on for many years - the piece that will finally establish him as a composer. But why does he suddenly feel as if he is being bombarded from all directions? Should he give up his dream of a Broadway career for a steady job and a normal life? Why does the new decade seem so threatening? A decade with crossroads, decisions, sacrifices, and an unbeatable sense that time is running out. Why can't he stay twenty-nine forever? Another Peter Pan! But what if Neverland turns out to be a nightmarish and lonely place, far from what he imagines? Three actors, ten characters, fourteen songs, and a work that serves as a hymn to dreams, youth, and the struggle between romanticism and cynicism.
Tick, Tick... Boom! by Pulitzer and Tony-winning composer, lyricist, and playwright Jonathan Larson premiered in 2001, receiving outstanding reviews. The production was loved by audiences and critics alike. In 2021, it was adapted for the big screen, starring Andrew Garfield, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, bringing the work to an even wider global audience.
