PRESENTATION

In the context of the Cosmos concert series, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center explores the various manifestations of minimalist music and its influences, as these are evidenced in cinema, concert halls and clubs all over the world.

Following the concert of the Philip Glass Ensemble last December, and shortly before the concert of Christian Löffler with Ergon Ensemble, which was postponed for April 4, the Culture Center welcomes Dustin O'Halloran at the Stavros Niarchos Hall.

On Monday, March 28, at 20:30, the Emmy-awarded American composer and pianist joins the musicians of Ergon Ensemble in a rare musical coming together that highlights the romantic side of minimalism. Known from his solo albums, the ambient music duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen, and his film and series soundtracks (for instance, the famous Opus 23, heard in Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette), Dustin O'Halloran is coming to Athens for a unique meeting with the Greek public. In this he is joined by the versatile musicians of Ergon Ensemble, in their third appearance in the context of the SNFCC's Cosmos concerts.

Dustin O'Halloran was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and spent most of his childhood in Los Angeles and Hawaii. His involvement with music started with classical piano studies at the age of seven, yet his first public performances came through the indie rock band Devics. In 2004, he released his debut solo album, Piano Solos. Two years later, he also established himself as a film composer, with tracks of his included in the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Since then, he has worked on dozens of films and TV productions. In 2011, he founded the duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen, together with Adam Wiltzie. Versatile and open to challenges, in 2017 he served as producer for Katy Perry's song "Into Me You See," while his latest personal works have been released by Deutsche Grammophon since 2019. Dustin O'Halloran has won an Emmy award for his music for the TV series Transparent and has been nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA for his music for the film Lion, along with German musician and composer Hauschka.

Ergon Ensemble was created in 2008, aiming to present and disseminate the work of 20th- and 21st-century composers. The great versatility, precision of interpretation, and talent of the musicians comprising the ensemble have garnered exceptional reviews and widespread acceptance among the public. Featuring a basic nucleus of musicians, which is enhanced ad hoc depending on the needs of each individual project, Ergon Ensemble has collaborated with the Greek National Opera, the Athens Concert Hall, and Onassis Stegi. The ensemble also boasts a significant presence in domestic and international festivals, such as the Athens Epidaurus Festival, SNF Nostos and Suså Festival of Denmark.
