PRESENTATION

Cosmos: I Solisti Veneti & Marita Paparizou

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is welcoming, for a third time in Stavros Niarchos Hall, the Soloists of Venice (I Solisti Veneti), Italy's most renowned chamber orchestra, along with celebrated Greek contralto Marita Paparizou, in a festive concert featuring works of Baroque music. The orchestra is conducted by renowned conductor Giuliano Carella.

The concert program is a journey into Italian and German Baroque music, through works by leading composers of the 18th century. From Arcangelo Corelli's brilliant concerto grosso to the expressive arias by Gluck, Händel, Porpora and Scarlatti, the repertoire highlights the richness, sensitivity and theatricality of the time. A special place is held by Vivaldi's concertos, featuring soloists Lucio Degani, Glauco Bertagnin, Enzo Ligresti and Giuseppe Barutti, and adding vitality and energy to an evening dedicated to the power of Baroque music.

Detailed program of the concert:

The orchestra "I Solisti Veneti" was founded in 1959 in Padua by Claudio Scimone, a student of Dimitri Mitropoulos. Scimone remained at the helm of the ensemble until his death in September 2018. Under his guidance, the orchestra was quickly internationally acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, and became mainly known for its interpretations of Italian Baroque music, presenting and recording many works by Antonio Vivaldi, Tomaso Albinoni, Francesco Geminiani, Benedetto Marcello, and Giuseppe Tartini. After Scimone's death, Giuliano Carella became the Conductor and Artistic Director of the orchestra.

To date, the Soloists of Venice have given more than 7,000 concerts in more than 90 countries, participated in most major classical music festivals, and recorded more than 350 LPs and CDs. They have been honored with dozens of awards (including a Grammy award and an "Una Vita per la Musica" award for lifetime achievement), and have collaborated with some of the greatest singers and soloists of our time, including Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, June Anderson, Marilyn Horne, Ruggero Raimondi, Samuel Ramey, Lucio Dalla, and Massimo Ranieri.

Marita Paparizou has collaborated with the Soloists of Venice, performing in several of their concerts across Europe, as well as on her award-winning personal album Vivaldi ma non solo.

The concert is staged with the support of the Italian Embassy.
