Tribute Concert
Christos Nikolopoulos

Featuring
George Dalaras, Kostas Makedonas and Aspasia Stratigou

Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) and ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra present on Monday 18 March at 20.30 at the Stavros Niarchos Hall the great popular composer Christos Nikolopoulos, in a tribute concert arranged and directed by Charis Andreadis.

Christos Nikolopoulos is one of the most important composers in the history of Greek popular music, with an extensive discography and collaborations with leading Greek performers, including Poly Panou, Yannis Poulopoulos, Stratos Dionysiou, Grigoris Bithikotsis, Tolis Voskopoulos, Haris Alexiou, George Dalaras, Paschalis Terzis, Dimitris Mitropanos, Manolis Mitsias, Dimitra Galani, Glykeria, Pitsa Papadopoulou, Katerina Kouka, Stelios Dionysiou.

Nikolopoulos began his career in the early 1960s, working with the last of the rebetiko artists (Vassilis Tsitsanis, Giannis Kyriazis, Giannis Papaioannou, Markos Vamvakaris). At a very young age, he began working in Athens night clubs as a bouzouki virtuoso, performing the great hits of the time, alongside Giorgos Zambetas, Stelios Zafiriou and other greats of that time. He soon found himself joining Stelios Kazantzidis and Marinella. In 1968, he began to compose the first songs of his own.

Over more than 40 years, he has been involved in a substantial part of the Greek discography; he is credited with recording more than 20,000 songs. His own compositions number upwards of 1,900, including record-selling hits.

With this concert, ERT and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center support Association of Friends of Sotir Center for Rehabilitation, Social Support and Creative Occupation of Persons with Disabilities, promoting its work.
