Like every year at Christmas time, the Christmas Stories of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) come to life at the Lighthouse. This year, the theatrical group "Syntechnia tou Geliou" [Guild of Laughter], true to its vision for a children's theater with social sensitivity and realistic stories that combine entertainment with reflection, is presenting the play Urgent Christmas. It is a tender story about friendship, solidarity and the true magic of the holiday season, directed by Vassilis Koukalani. The music and songs are written by Spyros Grammenos and Annie Theochari.
Three young patients in the pediatric ward of a hospital find themselves away from home during Christmas holidays. Their loneliness and anxiousness lead them to a series of adventures they could have never imagined, with joy and play overturning every obstacle along the way.
The play deals with contemporary social issues with sensitivity and a sense of humor, coupling its themes with music, songs and "theater within the theater," and inviting viewers to see the world through the eyes of children: without prejudice, full of possibility, with the belief that every day can be special when we are "together."
Because Christmas is not just a date on the calendar; it is the moment we choose to open our hearts up to others.
