After the strangest spring of the last many years, in the heart of a summer that we have anticipated more than ever before and in an atmosphere full of questions, the Chios Music Festival returns again this year, faithful to its appointment with the audience and the inhabitants of the island.

When will we go back to “normality”? When will we all be together again, without fear and anxiety?

Since the rhythm and melody penetrate the innermost of the soul and by seizing it with great force, they bring decency to it and they give it beauty...” (Plato, Republic) we choose to let the music guide us yet again. With a redesigned artistic program, the festival announces this summer's events, currently focusing on Greek artists and at the same time offering the field and the conditions for new and original creative collaborations.

Thus, Sokratis Sinopoulos will collaborate with Martha Mavroidi who honours the festival with her participation for the second year, while three different quartets, the Yasemi Vocal Quartet, the Giocoso String Quartet and the Sokratis Sinopoulos Quartet, will create a musical bridge from classical to traditional and jazz music. In addition, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Jani Christou, the festival honours the pioneer composer by screening the documentary by Costis Zouliatis titled: “Anaparastasis: Life & Work of Jani Christou (1926-1970)”. Finally, as always, along with the concerts, there will be workshops for child refugees and students of the Chios Music School with the singer Ghays Mansour from Syria, held for a whole week.

The events will take place at the Archaeological Museum of Chios, the Chios Mastic Museum member of the Museums Network of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, the Spyros Stephanou Estate in Kampos and at the Vigla of Pachi Open Air Theatre in Tigani, Sidirounta, while, just like last year, the Chios Music Festival will travel to Oinousses. All spaces will be properly set up to strictly adhere to all intended protection and safety measures for the audience and participants.

Admission is free with an admission card. The audience is required to have obtained the admission cards at least two days before the respective event from the Pyxida store or online through ticketservices.gr. It is recommended to arrive on time to avoid overcrowding when entering the venues.

The collaboration of the Chios Music Festival with the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, and all the collaborations that were planned before the pandemic, have been transferred to the summer of 2021.

The Festival is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and it is organised in collaboration with the Allianz Cultural Foundation, with a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and THE JOHN S FAFALIOS FOUNDATION, in association with the Region of the North Aegean, with the generous sponsorship of the Homerion Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Chios, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Athens, the Municipality of Oinousses and the “Friends of Oinousses” Association, and with the participation of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation. Ferry Transport Sponsor: Hellenic Seaways. Official Air Carrier Sponsor: AEGEAN.

The Festival participates in the SoundRoutes project, which is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
