The Hall at the Ziller Building
Direction: Dimitris Lignadis
Performed by
Grigoris Galatis, Vasilis Karaboulas, Dafni Markaki, Giorgis Tsouris and others.
One
of the oldest examples of modern Greek is the narrative epic Digenes
Akritas. This rare record of Greek culture and literary tradition,
handed down generation to generation and sung since the 14th century, is
now to be staged in the Hall at the National Theatre. Over the
centuries, the mythical stories and deeds of the heroic guardian of the
border of Byzantium, Digenes Akritas, helped keep alive a connection
with the roots of the Greek language and the national consciousness.
Director Dimitris Lignadis explores not only the text but also striking images from the epic work.
