STAVROS NIARCHOS FOUNDATION CULTURAL CENTER - STAVROS NIARCHOS HALL

PRESENTATION

Christian Passion and Classical Myth in Opera

On Holy Monday, April 10, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is welcoming for a second time to Stavros Niarchos Hall the Soloists of Venice (I Solisti Veneti), Italy's most renowned chamber orchestra, along with the celebrated Greek contralto Marita Paparizou, who will take us on a journey to the world of Passion and Myth. The orchestra is directed by the renowned conductor Giuliano Carella.

Antonio Vivaldi's music compositions will meet those of George Frideric Handel and Nicola Porpora; opera will meet oratorio, serenades and concerts, and ancient Greek and Roman mythology with meet religious worship. In this way, the Soloists of Venice and the warm voice of Marita Paparizou will attempt to render an anthology of Baroque music and its themes, the legacy of the Renaissance, and the ideals of Camerata Fiorentina.

The orchestra "I Solisti Veneti" was founded in 1959 in Padua by Claudio Scimone, a student of Dimitri Mitropoulos. Claudio Scimone remained at the helm of the ensemble until his death in September 2018. Under his guidance, the orchestra was quickly internationally acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, mainly known for its interpretations of Italian Baroque music, presenting and recording many works by Antonio Vivaldi, Tomaso Albinoni, Francesco Geminiani, Benedetto Marcello and Giuseppe Tartini.

To date, the Soloists of Venice have given more than 6,000 concerts in more than 90 countries, participated in all major classical music festivals, and recorded more than 350 LPs, CDs and DVDs. They have been honored with dozens of awards (including a Grammy award and an "Una Vita per la Musica" award for lifetime achievement), and have collaborated with some of the greatest singers and soloists of our time, including Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, José Carreras, June Anderson, Marilyn Horne, Ruggero Raimondi, Samuel Ramey, Lucio Dalla and Massimo Ranieri.

Marita Paparizou has collaborated with the Soloists of Venice in numerous concerts across Europe, as well as on her award-winning personal album Vivaldi ma non solo.
