Concert for the acquirement of a piano for
Aegina International Music Festival

In the homestretch of the celebration of 10th Aegina International Music Festival (1st – 29th August 2015), the Association of Friends of Aegina International Music Festival with the collaboration of Association of Friends of Byzantine and Christian Museum organize a pre-festival concert in Athens, in the garden of Byzantine and Christian Museum (22 Vassilissis Sofias St., Athens), on Thursday 11th June 2015 at 21:00 with Athens State Orchestra and soloist Dora Bakopoulos, prominent pianist and festival’s Artist Director.

This music event, which is carried out in collaboration with Piraeus Sinfonia International Festival, will be conducted by French Conductor Nicolas Krauze. There will be performances of works by Gioachino Rossini (Introduction from “The Barber of Seville”), Georges Bizet (Excerpts from “Carmen”), as well as Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54 by Robert Schumann.

During the last few years, apart from main events of Aegina Music Festival, pre-festival events have been established in Athens, with the determinant support of its active Association of Friends, aiming not only in the offer of artistic work but also in the financial support of main Festival in Aegina. More specifically, the cause of this year’s concert on the 11th of June 2015 is the fund-raising for the acquirement of a concert grand piano, which is necessary for the realization of Festival’s concerts. Part of the concert’s proceeds will be donated for the support of Association of Friends of Byzantine & Christian Museum.

Aegina International Music Festival was organized in 2005 for the first time, achieving marked success. Its great success led to the establishment of an exceptional Music Institution with its Artistic Director Dora Bakopoulos choosing an orientation mainly towards chamber music, the music of collaboration. Small ensembles of prominent Greek and foreign soloists unite their forces in giving performances of the greatest works of classical music. In this way and by making elaborated selections and co-operations, Aegina International Music Festival contributes substantially to the promotion of the dialogue among music generations, ethnicities and schools, having the language of music without borders as the common denominator, at idyllic landscapes and places of historical importance of the island.

Aegina, this beautiful island of Saronic, with many important monuments and natural beauty, proved to be an ideal place to host a high quality cultural activity, dedicated to classical music.

Since its very first organization, Aegina International Music Festival has constituted an appealing musical proposition for both local residents and summer visitors of the island, as well as music enthusiasts from Athens and the rest of the country. Aegina International Music Festival is continuously evolving and is already celebrating its 10th year of organization, having supported and embraced many Greek and foreign artists of classical as well as contemporary popular music so far. In parallel, it pursuits new collaborations for the best achievement of its goals, such as with Piraeus Sinfonia International Festival and its artistic director, Nikos Haliassas, a collaboration which was inaugurated in 2014 and continues this year as well.
