PRESENTATION

The story of the blue planet By Andri Snaer Magnason

What would you give someone who promised to make your wildest dreams come true? What would you do to be able to fly, avoid rain, or banish sleep forever?

It isn’t easy to talk to children about Western culture and its negative aspects, about distribution of resources and the moral dilemmas of a modern society.

In his book, Magnason dares to show the natural world as it really is: not as an inexhaustible children’s playground, but as a unique and fragile kingdom, as something that belongs to us, which is precious but under threat. And we ourselves are the threat. This children’s book, which has travelled way beyond Iceland’s geographical, cultural and linguistic borders to be published in translation in 30 countries, has now been turned into a play by the writer himself and staged in five countries. It is the first children’s book ever to have won the Icelandic Literary Prize.

This flexible production emphasises interaction and encourages children to produce their own pieces of artwork inspired by the story.

Katerina Karadima directs three actors, who go into schools with just a suitcase, in which they have managed to fit the whole world of the story, performing for children and with children!
