The internationally acclaimed artists Theodoros Kerkezos (saxophone) and Christos Papageorgiou (piano) meet for a unique concert at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, to perform works by J. S. Bach, Piazzolla, Milhaud, Debussy, Gershwin, Iturralde, Legrand, Morricone, Menken, Theodorakis, Hatzidakis and others.
Thedoros Kerkezos was recently unanimously elected as an honorary member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Russia, having been prized with distinctions such as the SuperSonic Award and the Gramophone “CD of the Month”. Christos Papageorgiou will present extracts from his “Stylistic Variations on a song by Mikis Theodorakis” which has received enthusiastic reviews around the world. In this work, Papageorgiou creates a dialogue between Theodorakis and composers of the past and the present in which variations on his well known song “Sto Periyiali to Krifo” are performed in each composer’s own distinct style. The programme also includes some of the finest pieces from the classical saxophone repertoire as well as works written especially for, and dedicated to, Theodoros Kerkezos.
