Agathangelos Georgakatos Ever since its premiere at La Fenice in Venice back in 1851, Rigoletto has stood its ground as one of the most popular operas of the entire repertoire. In Nikos S. Petropoulos version we are no longer in 16th century Mantua but in Mussolinis Italy, just before the outburst of World War II. From the audacious surroundings of the dissolute Duke of Mantua we are transported to a time of conspiracy and arrogance, darkness and shadows that perfectly suits Verdis powerfully dramatic music.
Rigolleto brings internationally acclaimed Greek baritone Dimitris Platanias back on stage of Olympia Theatre to sing the part that made him famous in Europes biggest theatres.
